Bailey E. Nelson serves as the Director of Communications at The Spartanburg County Foundation where she has overall responsibility for increasing the Foundation’s visibility, outreach efforts, and messaging throughout the greater Spartanburg community. Mrs. Nelson plans and carries out the communications activities of the Foundation, which include publications, media relations, special events and donor engagement.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Mrs. Nelson was Senior Pastor of a congregation in North Carolina, having spent nearly ten years serving faith communities throughout the southeast.
Mrs. Nelson had the privilege of serving on the staff of The New Baptist Covenant, a national movement to bring communities of faith from across North America together for the purpose of education and service towards the common good. The movement was convened by former President Jimmy Carter. Mrs. Nelson provided marketing and public relations services to the movement, as well as serving as the Director of the Stephenson Seminary Scholars Program. She has also served as a stateside liaison for the Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminaries, a consortium of theological institutions throughout Southeast Asia. Mrs. Nelson led an international delegation to the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the consortium and has aided in messaging their work among donors and partners in the United States.
Mrs. Nelson is a graduate of Furman University and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in religion and music. She is also a graduate of Mercer University’s McAfee School of Theology, where she earned a Masters of Divinity. Mrs. Nelson also completed a Clinical Pastoral Education residency at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mrs. Nelson is an ordained minister in the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and a passionate preacher and author. She is the recipient of the James T. McAfee, Jr. Endowed Vision and Leadership Award; James Claypool Excellence in Preaching Award; Addie Davis Award for Excellence in Preaching; and Furman University’s Religion Department Excellence in Preaching Award. Her opinion pieces and blogs have been published extensively and she is a featured author in the book, The World Is Waiting For You, a collection of sermons.
A native of Spartanburg, Mrs. Nelson and her husband, Justin, have one child, Aidan.
