Tuesday, April 18, 2017, 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Event: Speed Networking – Connect with Fellow Alumni

Location:  Wild Wing Café, Second Floor (109 W. Main Street, Spartanburg)

Session Description: Are you looking to expand your network in Spartanburg County?  You can start by connecting with fellow Grassroots Leadership Development Institute Alumni at a special speed networking event designed to provide you with an opportunity to meet others who are doing great work in the community.  Exchange professional information, catch up with your classmates, share your passions, and look for opportunities to collaborate!  This is sure to be an event you don’t want to miss!

 

Wednesday, June 28, 2017, 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m.

Event: Lunch with City and County Officials

Panelists: Justin Bradley, Spartanburg County Council (District 2); Verhonda Crawford, Chesnee City Council; Michael Meissner, Mayor of Pacolet; and Jerome Rice, Spartanburg City Council (District 5), GLDI Class of 2007

Location: West Main Artists Co-op

Session Description: Join us for a panel discussion with Spartanburg County elected officials as we explore what it takes to create and sustain a thriving community.  This session will offer the opportunity to hear from community leaders across Spartanburg County on their path to holding an elected position, their specific roles, key issues they are currently working to address, and how you can partner with other leaders to bring positive change to your neighborhood!

 

Saturday, August 26, 2017, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Event: Saturday Universi-TREE – Outside Learning and Fun for the Entire Family!

Speaker: Newt Hardie, President and Chairman, Trees Coalition

Location:  Spartanburg County Rail Trail at the Corner of Marion Street & Mary Black Rail Trail (Across from Little River Roasting, 460 Marion Avenue,

Spartanburg)

Session Description: Bring the entire family for a guided tour and discussion of the environmental challenges that native trees bring to our communities.  Discover how one local group has recruited volunteers to remove unwanted plants and trees throughout Spartanburg County.  Recommended items to bring are small hand-held gardening tools and gloves. (Long pants and closed-toed shoes are also recommended for this session).

 

Thursday, October 19, 2017, 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Event: Born for Greatness – Taking Your Leadership to the Next Level

Speaker: Ben Hall, Former NFL Player and Owner of Big Ben Dessert

Location: Spartanburg Methodist College, Phyllis Buchheit Board Room

(1000 Powell Mill Road, Spartanburg)

Session Description: Do you want to take your leadership to the next level?  Former NFL player Ben Hall will share his leadership philosophy of starting small and ending big. This session is aligned to unleash the tools you need to effectively pursue your passions with focus and clarity in a way that brings about positive results.

These events are open to all Grassroots Leadership Alumni and are FREE to all Grassroots Leadership Alumni Association members!  A fee of $15 per event will be charged to Alumni who are not members of the Alumni Association.  Become a member of the Grassroots Leadership Alumni today!
