Healthy Organization Institute Welcomes Applications for 2015 Class

The Healthy Organization Institute (HOI) is now accepting applications for its 2015 class. The HOI, which was launched as a pilot program this year, is designed to aid nonprofit leaders in improving the capacity and effectiveness of their organizations.

for websiteThe Healthy Organization Institute is a partnership of the Mary Black Foundation, The Spartanburg County Foundation, Spartanburg Regional Foundation, United Way of the Piedmont and the University of South Carolina Upstate’s George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics. This comprehensive best practices training program for nonprofit executive directors and board chairs incorporates peer learning, classroom instruction, and creative problem solving to allow leaders to take back to their organizations solid, practical concepts and build them into the framework of their organizations.

The HOI consists of monthly sessions from January to April, with a graduation ceremony taking place in May. According to Bill Brasington, director of the Adult Learning Center and a 2014 HOI participant, “The Healthy Organization Institute has the added benefit of bringing board members to the table. Fred Herren, the vice chair of the ALC’s Board of Directors, and I are learning together, and that’s been a real boost both personally and professionally.” Twelve nonprofit organizations participated in the pilot program, and twelve nonprofit organizations will be selected to participate in the 2015 class.
