Staff Notes for 2023

The Spartanburg County Foundation team works on our campus located on East Kennedy Street in downtown Spartanburg. This team of professionals manages operations, finance, philanthropic services, and community leadership activities. This includes thirteen full-time staff members, two interns, two project managers, and one contract support team member to fulfill our mission to improve the live of Spartanburg County residents.

In 2023 we welcomed two interns who started work with us in the summer and fall.

Nathaly Hansana is a senior at Converse University who will graduate in May. She has been building communications strategies and helping our finance team with record-keeping duties. She created our Grantee Spotlight social media campaign and converted that into an interactive digital exhibit hosted in our Gallery of Philanthropy December 12th – 22nd.  She is currently working on a new series that will be showcased in the Gallery during January.

Tanya Velichko is also a senior and will finish her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Western Governors University this month. She has provided multiple levels of support to our Finance Team, processing scholarships, grant requests from fundholders, and inter-fund transfers.

These interns have brought strong skills, a willingness to learn, and great work ethics to their positions with us. The Foundation’s internship program continues to provide real-world experience for students and capacity support for multiple areas of our operations.

In November, the Foundation welcomed Lakesha McCutchen as Community Engagement Officer in our Community Leadership Team. She will be working closely with the Foundation’s initiatives and community partners. Her office is located in the Center for Philanthropy.

A native of Andrews, SC, Lakesha has lived in Spartanburg since 2004 and has worked in various roles in the nonprofit sector for more than 20 years. You can learn more about Lakesha by clicking here.

Sadly, the Foundation lost one of its own this fall. We ask community members to keep the family of Randy Jones, our CFO, in your thoughts during this season. Randy passed away unexpectedly on September 17th. Our team and his family have appreciated the many condolences offered by those who knew him. His legacy remains vital in many aspects of the Foundation’s operations and commitment to stewardship.

Our staff offices and meeting rooms are located in both our campus buildings. The Administrative Building is located at 424 E. Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 and is our mailing address.  There you will find offices of our President and CEO, Troy Hanna, and Executive Assistant Jamie Nesbitt, as well as our Philanthropic Services Team (donor services, fund development, and communications) and Finance Team (director of finance, contributions management, accounting, scholarships).  The Zimmerli Board Room and Bain Conference Room are also located in the Administrative building.

Our Center for Philanthropy is located at 431 E. Kennedy Street. It provides offices for our Operations Team (general, facility, and human resources) and Community Leadership Team (grantmaking, initiatives, and nonprofit services).  It also is home to the Spartanburg offices of Upstate Warrior Solution, Strategic Spartanburg, Beauty Marks for Girls, Liberty Fellowship, and Project Hope Foundation. The Center also offers meeting space in the Flex Convening Space, Innovation Lab, Community Resource Library, Community Corner, and in the Gallery of Philanthropy. In the Gallery, you can learn more about our community through interactive kiosks and information unavailable elsewhere. The Center and gallery are open from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM throughout the year. Though you may visit any time, we encourage you to call before coming to explore the kiosks (864-582-0138), as we may move them during special events.
