Communications Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Spartanburg County Foundation seeks a full-time Communications Officer to lead the Foundation’s communications and marketing strategy and activities. The Communications Officer develops and implements brand identity and key message standards to increase the Foundation’s visibility, outreach efforts, and messaging throughout the greater Spartanburg community. This position also plans and carries out the communications activities of the Foundation, which includes (but not limited to) publications, website & social media management, event coordination, press releases, presentation development, and more.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and at least five to seven years’ experience preferred in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; attention to detail; creativity; outstanding written and communication skills; excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills; experience in graphic design and/or print layout a plus; experience using social media and website content management systems successfully.  Nonprofit experience a plus!

Program Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Spartanburg County Foundation seeks an experienced full-time Program Officer to lead the Foundation’s grants management and conduct research to inform the Foundation’s program of work. This position leads the planning, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives related to Nonprofit Effectiveness and is a collaborative member of the Foundation’s team. Additionally, the Program Officer supports the Foundation’s Community Leadership activities, represents the Foundation in community meetings, and establishes and maintains effective relationships with area not-for-profit organizations and key stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; a minimum of five years’ experience in the nonprofit sector required and strong knowledge of best practices and policies for grantmaking; strong foundational knowledge of the Spartanburg community, including critical issues and key community and nonprofit leaders; ability to collaborate and work effectively with others of divergent views; and excellent communication skills both written and oral.Candidate must be savvy across all technology platforms and able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Spartanburg County Foundation seeks highly motivated and qualified students to gain real-world work experience and to learn the inner-workings of a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Spartanburg County residents. The goal of the internship program is to provide training and experience related to a student’s academic course of study and career goals.

The Foundation offers internships in the areas of finance and accounting, communications, special initiatives, and administrative support. The Foundation internship program is currently on hold as the office is temporarily closed. Interested candidates can submit an Internship Application and will be notified once the program resumes

The accounting intern is responsible for providing support to the director of finance. This individual will work directly with the director of finance to assist in providing auditing support, monthly and annual reconciliations, financial statements, investment performance reports, and special projects while providing documentation to fund holders in a timely manner. In addition, this individual will obtain a well-rounded experience in all facets of fund accounting in a nonprofit environment. Click Here for a full description.

The communications intern is responsible for providing support for internal and external communications efforts. The communications intern works under the overall direction of the communications officer but may collaborate with other members of the Foundation to develop communication tools and disseminate information about programs and activities. The Foundation will endeavor to provide the communications intern with meaningful assignments that contribute to an overall understanding of the profession and readiness for post-graduate employment. The special initiatives intern is responsible for providing support for grantmaking, initiatives, and community leadership work. The special initiatives intern works under the direction of the director of grants and initiatives but may collaborate with other members of the Foundation on various tasks and projects as time allows. The administrative support intern is responsible for providing administrative support to the Foundation. The administrative support intern works under the direction of the designated administrative staff but may collaborate with all staff to handle the reception area, research, archiving files, filing, and general administrative support.

The Women Giving for Spartanburg (WGFS) intern is responsible for providing support to the WGFS’s program liaison in the areas of marketing and events, grantmaking, and the overall administrative work of WGFS. There will also be opportunities for the intern to assist the Foundation with various tasks and projects as time allows. The Spartanburg Interfaith Alliance intern is responsible for providing administrative support to the Spartanburg Interfaith Alliance, a network of clergy, lay leaders, and faith communities that have joined together for the purpose of contributing to the common good. The NSEM Marketing and Communications Intern is a position that works with and reports directly to The Spartanburg County Foundation Consultant for the Network for Southern Economic Mobility (NSEM).
