MORE THAN JUST A GRANTMAKER

At The Spartanburg County Foundation, we are a knowledge source for nonprofits and donors alike. From training sessions to information on best practices, the Foundation strives to provide our partners with the appropriate tools and resources to make more informed decisions about growing their organizations, developing connections, and impacting change.

The purpose of the Spartanburg County Foundation’s Donor Connect program is to ensure that donors are equipped with resources to meet their philanthropic goals, to engage donors in expanding those goals and maximizing impact, and to meet the ever-changing needs of Spartanburg County.

The Foundation offers a variety of services through Donor Connect which include:

  • Education and networking events aimed to increase donors’ knowledge of community needs and offer opportunities to take action;
  • Grantmaking opportunities, identified by the Foundation that will assist donors in expanding their philanthropic goals and maximizing impact;
  • Newsletters and impact updates highlighting current needs and opportunities to respond;
  • A section of the website dedicated to Donor Connect that highlights needs and provides additional resources to donors, quarterly statements, and 24-hour access to fund information through FundWeb; and
  • Direct communication to specific donors as requested or as needs are identified.

On April 28, 2022, SCF held its first Estate Planning educational session.  In response to requests for more information, the Foundation has partnered with local field experts to provide insight, tools, and tips for this topic that affects everyone. Staying Safe Online – There are countless online scams that target seniors, who lost more than $966 million to fraudsters in 2020, according to FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. However, younger age groups had significant increases in fraud reports since 2019. Fraud doesn’t discriminate by age. Younger people lost less money simply because they have fewer financial assets.  This session provides an overview of key issues related to online safety for all ages.  Click the title or the title screen to view the 1 hr. presentation that includes a 10 minute overview of the Foundation’s new fundholder portal.  This event handout provided addition support for participants.

Our Natural Environment  was presented by the Spartanburg County Foundation in partnership with Upstate Forever, SPACE, the Tyger River Foundation, and Spartanburg County Balmer Foundation, to educate SCF donors and fundholders about current environmental conservation issues. Implications for local, State, and personal action are covered. The topics are presented with a focus on the balance between development and conservation.

The Foundation offers knowledge sharing sessions to all nonprofit organizations that serve Spartanburg County.  These lunch-and-learn sessions are held around the lunch hour and free to nonprofit organizations serving Spartanburg County.  Each month, the Foundation sends information about its upcoming sessions to its Nonprofit Mailing list. If you would like to be added to this list, please email Evan Petty to request to be added to the nonprofit mailing list.
