SCF Initiatives build community connections…
The Foundation’s Initiatives engage community members in our work, whether they are fundholders, donors to the foundation, or not. Throughout the year, we support nonprofit organizations and individuals/groups who are committed to addressing our community’s needs.
Nonprofit Connect has provided multiple learning sessions to strengthen the capacity of nonprofit leaders to serve our community. They have learned about several key topics: Artificial Intelligence, its implications and uses in the nonprofit sector; how to build, maintain, and protect their organizational health; and participated in a half-day workshop on grant writing. Our Nonprofit Capacity Building Boot Camp recently launched its third cohort and previous Boot Camp participants are now involved in continuing education about fundraising practices to support sustainability.
The Foundation’s Grassroots Leadership Development Institute has begun its 20th year with special activities scheduled by the Grassroots Leadership Alumni Association throughout 2024 and culminating in a celebratory event scheduled for late October. The GLDI class of 2024 has completed three of its seven weekend training sessions. Their next session scheduled for Saturday, July 20th covers Leading with a Racial Equity Lens, a virtual session provided by the Racial Equity Institute. There are a limited number of extra spots being made available to community members. Register now if you are interested.
Our Minority Business Connect initiative has held three events this year, most recently a brand-building series of opportunities for black-owned businesses held in June. The African American Trailblazers event was paired with a digital exhibit as a community highlight for Black History Month.
Did you know? We had 1,140 visitors to the Center for Philanthropy and provided space for 77 nonprofit/community meetings during the first quarter of the year. The Center provides office space for five of the Foundation’s fifteen full-time employees. The Center also leases office space to nonprofit organizations and offers free meeting space by reservation to community groups and nonprofits.
