Mary L. Thomas Award for Civic Leadership and Community Change
Since 2007, the Spartanburg County Foundation has presented the Mary L. Thomas Award for Civic Leadership and Community Change to a community member who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to improving the quality of life in Spartanburg County.
Nominations open in the fall and the award recipient is honored the following year at the Annual Meeting for the Spartanburg County Foundation held in the spring.

At the Spartanburg County Foundation’s Annual Meeting held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Dr. Nikki Honeycutt, Director of the Daniel Morgan Technology Center (DMTC) was announced as the latest recipient of the Mary L. Thomas Award for Civic Leadership and Community Change. Since becoming the leader for DMTC has expanded the school’s partnerships with industry leaders, updated the programs offered at the school to align with employer needs, and ensured that all students completing DMTC programs leave the school with credentials that set them up for workplace success.
