The Planned Giving Legacy Society
Donors who choose to benefit the Spartanburg community through their estate are recognized as members of our Planned Giving Legacy Society.
Ways to Give
There are a variety of ways to give, with many options offering significant tax benefits for you and your heirs.
Donor-Advised Fund
A Donor Advised Fund is a convenient, flexible tool for individuals and families to simplify their charitable giving. If you have a range of community interests, a Donor Advised Fund offers significant benefits and is an excellent way to give to 501(c)(3) nonprofits that align with your philanthropic goals. You can involve family in your philanthropy during your lifetime, and by naming loved ones as successor advisors, they can carry on your legacy of giving.
Bequest by Will
Donors may designate a gift or portion of their estate to the Spartanburg County Foundation, and in some cases receive a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate taxes.
Charitable Lead Trust
Place cash or property into a trust that pays a fixed amount to the Spartanburg County Foundation for the length of time you prefer. Once this period ends, the assets held by the trust are transferred to your named beneficiaries. In some cases, you receive a substantial reduction in federal gift and estate taxes.
Charitable Remainder Trust
Place cash or property into a trust that pays annual income to you or your named beneficiary for life. After the death of the beneficiary, the remainder of the trust transfers to the Spartanburg County Foundation and is placed into a charitable fund designated by you.
Charitable IRA Rollover or Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you are at least 70 1/2 years old, you may make an annual gift of up to $100,000 by transferring IRA assets to the Spartanburg County Foundation – tax-free.
Gifts of Appreciated Stock
By giving stock through the Spartanburg County Foundation, you can avoid capital gains taxes that would be due as a result of its sale and establish a charitable fund that benefits the local causes and organizations you care about most.
Gift of Real Estate
You may donate a residence or other real property as a gift, maximizing charitable impact while leveraging significant tax benefits.
Gift of Life Insurance
Life insurance provides a simple way for you to give a significant gift to charity, with tax benefits that you can enjoy during your lifetime.
